My final video

My final project is going to be on a weird program that modifies the game Half-life 2. It is called "Garry's Mod." This game is the ultimate time killer. It is a game without a point. You can do some crazy stuff. For example take a look at this video I made.

You can manipulate the physics in the game in almost anyway. In the video I made the lifting power of the balloons many times greater than they would be in real life. These super balloons lifted the unsuspecting guard high into the air. Who says you have to have violence in a video game for it to be any fun?

Clean your nose!

got a dirty nose? Just do what this brave soul did!

The look on his face is PRICELESS!

Windows vista uses 900mb of RAM at boot. Linux less than 300mb

I have been playing around with Xubuntu and I have all the fancy compiz-fusion effects up and running on my laptop. I noticed that it uses 2/3rds less RAM than my desktop running windows vista. The 3d effects of compiz-fusion is far better than Vista's yet uses less RAM. Check out this video of Xubuntu running on old hardware.

I admit its kinda nerdy, but whatever.

Another interesting thing I hurd on my shortwave radio.

This is nothing special and really hard to hear but it was strange listening to it. It was either some aeronautical stuff or maybe even a HAM QSL party? I really don't know hahha. Sorry for the poor audio quality, but there was massive interference from a Chinese station.

Being sick sucks!

Well the holiday season has begun and I have a nice cold to show for it! Don't buy into the hype of stupid re-branded vitamins like Airborne. That stuff is the biggest scam. It's just alka-seltzer and vitamins combined. Do your self a favor and just buy the cheap drug store multi-vitamin. It does the same thing and doesn't taste like hell!
Airborne is just a scam, if you have a barely decent diet taking it will have little impact on your ability to fight off viruses and bacterial infections.

US poverty map

Searching the internet I found this interactive poverty map of the United States. I find it shocking that some states have really high child proverty rates. Here is the link if you are interested.

Have you ever heard of the "Amen break?" Well you should because this break is everwhere! Watch this you tube clip, its sort of long, but very interesting!

Creepy Shortwave number station

Last night I took my shortwave radio and ghetto random-wire antenna outside to see what I could hear. I threw the antenna on the roof and got to listening. I was able to find a ton of stations that were broadcasting out of Asia and Australia!
Everything was going great until I found a creepy station on 8140 khz. This was a numbers station.
People think these stations are to relay information to spies out in the field. You can read more about it here
Thanks to my Cellphone, I was able to capture a short video of this station.

Here is same broadcast I found, but on another freq.

Pretty creepy stuff huh? Shortwave radio is a fun (but very nerdy) hobby!

9/11 and the Bascom station bomb scare.

Today was like any other day. Take the light-rail, go to class and take the light-rail back. I really didn't think much about the 2973 people that lost their lives back in 2001.

Those memories came flooding back when it was anoounced over the intercom that the Bascom station was closed down due to police activity in the area. I quickly pulled my phone out and went to the Mercury News website to see what was going on.

I guess there was something suspicious left at the station and the police didn't want to risk it. So the station and line was closed at Fruitdale and all the passengers (myself included) had to hoof it over to a bus and have them drive us around the closed station.

Since 9/11 our country has changed. We are now more alert than ever when it comes to potential terrorist attacks. Hell, even the light-rail and bus system will tell passengers every few minutes to mind for unattended (read: possible bombs/ biological weapons.) items.

Many terrorists like to target public transportation due to the light security and large groups of people. I would say in San Jose the people riding mass transit are the most at risk for such an attack. I hope that taking the light-rail instead of buying a 200 dollar parking permit doesn't cost me my life.

blogging on the go

Well I am trying out how well blogger works on on phone. So far the interface loads very slowly on my top end pocket pc. It seems like there is a way to text message blogs to blogger but why pay the text fee? Blogger needs a better mobile website. I am just glad it even works. It is pretty cool to write this as I am on the lightrail. I wonder how well it works on the iphone...
